I am at a crossroads, I can either go with 2 slightly used AMD HD6950 cards one with artic cooler fans and run them in concert for $175, or go with a brand R9 270x/280 family card. I'm just not sure if the 6950's are too old to even be investing in. I dont play crazy games just mostly WoW and SWTOR and a few racing games from time to time.
I'm kind of stuck any assistance would be greatly appreciated thank you very much.

From my experience, its generally safer to go with single cards for two reasons.

1) Most games/apps aren't optimized or even able to use xfire/sli.
2) Its reasonably cheap to upgrade later, at that point you can just add another card from that series to get a sizable performance boost without the cost of a huge card upgrade.
