Hey all,
So I built a desktop last year, everything was working fine, but then I decided to upgrade the heat sink on the cpu (stock) to a better one (noctua d14) and got it all setup. To make it work I had to unscrew my motherboard to put a backplate on the back of my motherboard. In the process I removed the 24 pin atx, but left in the 8pin atx. When I was done with the head sink and put everything back into place, I forgot to put the 24 pin back in and then pressed the power button. Nothing happened so I turned it off, turned off the surge protector and then removed the cable. When I looked inside I saw that the atx wasn't plugged in and so I put it back in place, closed it back up. This time the fans (plugged into PSU) and the LEDs (plugged into motherboard) came on, but the monitor said no signal and the cpu fans weren't spinning.
I've tried removing and putting back in ram and the video card, but it still won't boot up.
Does the motherboard sound fried and would that be caused by powering up with only the 8 pin atx?
