When I first made my build, I thought 4gb of ram would be enough however I've now come to the realization that 8gb is what I really need. I already have 2 sticks of 2gb ram and am considering buying 2 more sticks of the same kind. However, my motherboard only supports dual channel. Will there be a significant performance decrease or any other issue if I choose to add 2 more sticks. The ram is G. Skill Rip Jaw X @ 1600mhz. My mobo is a Biostar ta 970.

Both kits will run in dual channel, just make sure that are seated in the meant slots.

Mixing RAM sets can work, but it's not recommended. It's advisable to purchase sticks that have been binned together and sold as a tested set. Not saying it won't work, just saying don't be surprised if they don't play well together. If it boots okay, you'll want to run a memory test first thing - if you see lots of errors, it doesn't boot in the first place, you get caught in a boot loop, or you find your 8GB noticeably slower than the original 4, you should pull and return the new RAM and either stick with what you have or get a matched set.

Best bet is a full set of the amount you want, that way you have sticks guaranteed to play nice, then can try adding the old and if they will play it's a bonus or could sell them and recoup some of your expenditure :)
