I was thinking of puting a R9 280X GPU into my pc. Would it bottleneck with an AMD 4300- 3.8 GHZ CPU or would they run fine together.

P.S. Can you game with a bottleneck? I do not entirely know what one is and would like to know more about them.

More about : amd 4300 ghz cpu bottleneck amd msi 280x

Yes, the FX-4300 will bottleneck the R9 280X. Is not fast enough for that GPU.

And yes again, you can still play even when you have bottlenecks, you just won't be able to achieve the maximum performance the GPU can do.

GPU bottleneck happens when the CPU is not fast enough to do its part in the processing of game. Some jobs are done by the GPU while others by the CPU, when the CPU is not fast enough the GPU must "wait" for the CPU to do its job so it can continue. That causes performance lose depending on how "slow" is the CPU.

This is an analogy.

Thanks Man. I'm new to the pc gaming environment and will go ahead and buy the card. What should my processor be?

From AMD I think you should go with at least FX-6350. But to ensure performance and increase reliability I think you must go with the Intel Haswell platform, the higher i3 or lower i5 will do great for 280Xand you will be able to upgrade in the future, the 90 series chipset motherboards are compatible with the upcoming Broadwell CPUs (5th gen Core i).
