Is my PSU compatible with my MOBO?

Hi, I just bought all of my new parts for my first build. I'm still pretty new to all of this so I kind of just got what I thought was good. I checked compatibility with everything except psu with the motherboard. I know that sounds crazy, but I'm not sure. I have a Corsair CX500 psu, and a Gigabyte F2A55M-S1 motherboard. I plugged the 24 pin connector but it wouldn't turn on. There's the other 3 cords as well, the 2 pci-e cords and the cpu cord but the cpu cord had six pins and the slot what I thought where it was supposed to go only had 4. I'm completely lost and so upset. I really need your help so I'll take whatever you guys have.

You need to split the 8 cpu power pin into 2 - 4 pins and plug 1 of the 4 pins into your board.

I did that, but when I try to turn the psu on it still doesn't turn on. I know I have to actually short certain pins to turn the whole thing on but shouldn't the psu kick on?

I know I'm asking some pretty ridiculous stuff but i've been waiting so long to put together this computer and I really need this thing so I apologize for the inconvenience but everything helps.

I don't unfortunately. I mean technically I do but it has what I think is coil whine but it's to the point where it doesn't even turn on it just whines at a very high pitch. Hence the new power supply.

I don't really care about that though I just want this one thing to work out for me. To have to work this hard for this thing and then it not even work is pretty frustrating.

I'm going to go to a friend's house tomorrow and use his PSU to check to see if that's the problem, when I do get there though is there anything I should first do? Before I do the exact same thing I've just done yet again?

Okay, so a few minutes ago I figured why not just mess around with some stuff for shits and giggles and I shorted out the 2 power pins and it turned on, I think. The cpu fan and the psu fan are both spinning, no led's but I think that's because the mobo doesn't have any, but the monitor isn't turning on. Like it's on, but the BIOS and stuff isn't coming up
