A peculiar boot problem

Yep... Another one of those....

Hi guys, I think I may have just tremendously screwed up trying to fix a simple graphics card problem.

The original problem: I came home and tried to turn on my computer. It did, but nothing came up on the display, the monitor was just sitting there, staring at me, blankly. There was no floating screensaver that came up whenever the HDMI cable putted out or whenever I have it unplugged. It was just... blank. So I looked down at my case and sure enough, the red LED of death was shining on my graphics card.

I first removed and reseated the graphics card, maybe it got jostled somehow in the stillness of the morning night. That didn't help. Thinking it was a simple problem with the PSU-GPU connections, I pulled out dem pins and reconnected them. Nope. The computer would boot just fine, and I'm fairly certain it got to the Windows screen, because if I leave it long enough after it turns on, I would have to physically hold the button to shut it off, but if I hit the power button again soonish after it powers on, it shuts off immediately (you'll have to trust me on my "soonish" and "long enough" here, I'm fairly confident in judging how long it takes my system to boot up). I checked and the GPU fans were still spinning, so I assumed that the power connections weren't the problem.

How I screwed it up: And right there is the extent of my computer knowledge. A couple google searches later and, for some reason, I thought it was a good idea to try clearing CMOS with the jumper on my motherboard. I turned the computer off, disconnected the power supply, moved the jumper cap over to the clear position, removed the CMOS battery and left everything to sit for ~2 hours. Came back, put CMOS battery back in, moved the jumper cap back to the original position, reconnected the power supply, hit the power button with crossed fingers aaaaaaaandddd.... the GPU red light of death came on again.... followed shortly by the boot LED of death. I couldn't even get to the BIOS screen to re-enter my settings, pretty sure no POST either (but I can't tell because no graphics, *sad panda*).

I did the normal checks for boot problems: reseated memories, checked PSU-CPU pins, RAM pins, fan pins. None of those should have been problematic, because I didn't touch them while I was clearing CMOS. I'm at a loss here, maybe someone smarter can point out where I majorly screwed up (aside from the obvious).

My specs, because they might matter:
Mobo: ASUS P9X79 (standard, I'm no bouge)
CPU: Intel Core i7-3820
GPU: Sapphire Radeon 7970
RAM: 12 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 SDRAM 1600 MHz (I originally had 16, but one stick was bad and I was too lazy to pick up a replacement)
PSU: Coolermaster Silent Pro 1000W
Case: Too big.

Thanks for reading my rant, pre-emptive thanks for considering to help. If you need any more information, I'll be happy to provide what I can.
