Possible faulty CPU?

In a galaxy far, far away...

Built computer in April, but a month ago it crashed randomly. Tried restarting to no avail. It would run, but only for half-second until it would die again. The fans would spin, the lights would go on, but it would die pretty much immediately.

Before this story commences here are my specs, built by yours truly:

MOBO- Gigabyte GA‑Z87X‑UD4H----> Gigabyte 797X-UD5H
CPU- i7-4770K, 3.5 Ghz LGA 1150
GPU- EVGA GeForce GTX 750Ti FTW 2gb
PSU- Corsair 430w----> 750w
RAM- G.Skill Ripjaws X 8Gbx2(16Gb total)
Liquid Cooling Unit- H100i

After reading countless forums and being unsure what the exact issue was, I took it into BB(GeekSquad) and they suggested a larger PSU(750w) and an RMA of the mobo(Gigabyte GA‑Z87X‑UD4H). I did this. Gigabyte said 'ok, shits weak- send it, we fix it.' Unfortunately the board got damaged beyond repair in transit, courtesy of USPS, and Gigabyte emailed me 9 pictures of the damages saying, 'shits crazy- warranty voided.' So I buy the new model(Gigabyte 797X-UD5H and a new PSU(Corsair 750w). These arrived a few days ago and I just put it together last night.

Same issue. PC starts, but crashes immediately. New mobo, new psu, same cpu.

My question is, does this appear to be a CPU issue? I do not want to fork up $300 for a CPU if this is not the issue, but I really have no other way of testing the CPU.

If you guys and your wisdom could help it would be greatly appreciated and thank you for your time.

Yes, but I just tried running it without the water cooler to see if the CPU would get warm. I read somewhere that if the CPU gets warm then this is not my issue. My CPU is getting warm- does this mean that it is working properly?

Is it possible for this issue to occur with faulty RAM? I tried switching out the two, but get the same problem.

Well, with faulty and or bad ram, the PC would indeed not boot, however I doubt that both of your sticks are dead, that would be the worst luck ever. It's either the Motherboard or CPU, it can be rather difficult to know which one it is unless you have other parts to test them on.

Alright, then I will ask some buddies if I can borrow a stick of RAM to test it. To be honest, I have been having a lot of bad luck lately so I want to test EVERYTHING before making major decisions.

I dont think its the mobo, I just got a new one in the mail yesterday. I am hoping its the RAM... much cheaper than a CPU.

So I tried my friends 4Gb G.Skill RAM and the computer did the same thing. Started for half a second then died. So my RAM must be OK.

The CPU must be getting power, but not know what to do with that power since it gets hot and nothing starts. I already set up a warranty with Intel I just have to ship them my CPU. Sp ill be doing that next week and letting you all know if that was the culprit.

Well I just bought that new motherboard, so the chances are very slim. If that is the case, then I wont be doing business with Gigabyte again...

Ok, just got my new CPU installed. That seemed to be the issue.

Everything starts up OK. I got into bios and was adjusting a few of the settings. Then I restarted normally and now my mouse and keyboard are not registering at all. No lights on anything. The keyboard is wired, but the mouse is wireless logitech.

So I found that a few drivers got corrupted which is preventing the mouse and keyboard from working.

I downloaded the drivers from the gigabyte website and tried to update them. However, this did not work for some reason. It said that the drivers were not correct. SO now I guess I need to reinstall win7 onto my ssd. If anyone knows how to do this or knows how I can get the correct drivers thatd be awesome.

You may try to "remove device" or "remove driver" in device manager first, win7 will then, on a reboot, look for the appropriate drivers. If not, try using the ones you downloaded.

Also, I apologize, but I have had a busy week and haven't had a lot of time on my hands to check up on Tom's Hardware site.

So I had an OEM version of Win7 and removing the drivers didnt work. I guess Ill need to purchase a new version of Win7 and wipe my SSD. I dont quite have the cash for that right now... so we're going to hope that is the case. I will update down the road once I eventually purchase that if it helped as to inform future readers.

I am fairly confident missing drivers will be fixed with the new OS.

Thank you for working with me throughout this ordeal, FoxVoxDK. I appreciate the help and I understand its on your free-time. You were very informative.

No worries and you're welcome, just don't select "pick as solution" and the thread will remain open.

I will give as much help as I can. Also, I find it odd that if the OS was OEM'd to your previous motherboard, then per experience I was simply denied the use my Win7 key.

Which when I think about it, might leave you without some proper win7 updates.

A long going process... but good news.

Last night I was able to get the necessary drivers with some help from Microsoft. It seems I just need get a new product key now. So you were correct with your last post.

I am still missing an Ethernet Controller driver, but I think that is related to the product key issue. I am hoping once I get a new key that it will update properly.

In other news, I recently found out the audio output on my monitor does not work... So I have another RMA set up with ASUS... I cant seem to catch a break.

Thanks for the driver, but unfortunately when I try to update it says there is already a more updated version of the driver even after I uninstall the corrupted driver.

Also, I didnt need to get a new key after all. For some reason the old one decided be authenticated and is now not giving me any grief. Phew.

However, you are correct. As it turns out, my hdd did fail. My roommate wants to try it on his pc just to make sure, but I am not even getting the thing to spin, so I doubt a different pc will make any difference.
