I very recently finished putting together my first desktop. I tested the system by running Skyrim on ultra with some demanding graphical mods in place; the framerate was silky smooth. It ran great with no problems for about 3 days, then I experienced a shutdown while gaming. I gave me no blue screens or error messages.

The system would then try to reboot, and upon launching windows, shut down again after a few seconds. After it did this several times, I turned the system off and left it for a bit. I booted it up again later and it started without issue. CPU temps seem to be ok, though possibly a bit high for idling (~35C); CPU's are running at stock speeds with no OC. I know for a fact the GPU isn't overheating as I haven't seen it go over 70C even under heavy load.

I decided to try stress-testing the CPU using Prime95. After a few minutes, the CPU leveled at 70C. I stopped the test, and the temperatures rapidly decreased; the system decided to crash a few seconds later as well.

I'm at a loss as to why this is happening. It doesn't seem like it would be the CPU, since it occurred even when it was at a lower temp (30's). Could it possibly be the PSU? I thought the 650W PSU I have now would be sufficient, and it was working just fine for a few while. Any thoughts on this? Any help would be very much appreciated by this newcomer to PC building. :)

EDIT: Whoops, forgot the specs.

SolidGear 650W Power Supply < More than likely your problem , their power supplies are horrible quality and very unstable.

Look for XFX , SEASONIC , EVGA B2 , G2 , Corsair HX , AX , Antec.

I suspected as much. The power supply was bundled with the CPU/motherboard, which is the only reason I went with it.

Thanks for the input. I might try replacing it and see if that helps.

Bundled power supplies are usually very poor.
