For sometime now i have been considering buying an SSD,probably from Samsung, But after looking into what i would get in terms of performance, i find myself wondering..should i?

I have a satndard WD Green HDD. I can Boot windows 8.1 in about 9 secs. Online gaming i`m normally the first to load. So,yea, i was thinking.

With current SSD`s only ably to write a few times(ok maybe not " a few", but you get what i mean) and with projected life span of just 5 years(minimal writes i guess).

Is an SSD truly worth it? For what?..a few secs loading time on photoshop? a few secs loading time on BF4?(oh yea dun forget the ppl that play that and dun have an SSD)

I`m thinking that to buy an SSd is to waste money.

Can Anyone convince me that its worth investing money in one?

Yes, get a SSD it's brings new life into a PC. My ancient 775 system with a SSD felt like new again. Even better than new!
My friend got a SSD, his hdd startup took like 2 minutes (don't know what the hell he has), with SSD it took around 10 seconds or so.

False. An SSD does nothing for FPS in games. Absolutely nothing. That just isn't how it works.

I had 20 games installed on mine and NOT ONE showed a FPS boost.

I love mine in R0, those 1000MB/s+ reads are beastly. That said, SSD's for Win8 boot times is not needed, for win7 I went from 40 secs to 15 secs with my (now older Kingston 3k 240GB, which btw has 100% lifetime remaining and 4% delta writes used over the past 2½ years, total writes so far is 14TB).

Games load almost instantly, wait time is non-existent and for my rendering and photo handling, it is priceless.

Are they necessary, no. Are they nice to have if you dislike waiting on render process and load times, yes.

Subjectively, I can say I love SSD's and my next boot drive will be an OCZ RevoDrive, for those native 1.5-1.8GB/s reads.

Strange? Did you buy a home made ssd? The proof is in the pudding. They DO help with gaming as FoxVoxDK just stated. I don't know what your problem was but i feel bad for ya!

thirding Tiny Voices & FoxVoxDK.

feel like upgrading but don't see a need to upgrade your GPU/CPU/RAM? willing to dosh out 60-150 buckaroos for improved load times, even if by a few seconds in some cases? yes.

otherwise; no. gaming-wise, they're nice to have if you got money to spend, but not really a necessity if you much prefer to save on cash. for productivity, those few seconds can have it's benefit in the long run.

what proof? FoxVoxDK said it improves load time, which is true, while you said it improves fps, which is false;

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2013/12/10/hdd_vs_ssd_real_world_gaming_performance/

the most it does help in actual gaming performance are in consoles, but not in boosting fps, but improving frametime.

Your right! And i never even said they gave an fps increase. They will give your game better performance.
Ex: Opening a door in Skyrim... SSD > HDD

You did it again. Opening a door faster is not a performance increase, it is a load time decrease. That's all an SSD does. Lower load times. It does not increase game performance. Sorry man.

i think it's worth it. just don't buy those large capacity ones and you are golden. get a 120gb (or 240), place the OS there and some of your favorite games, that's it.

i have 2 ssd's now. my old intel is still fine, it's been i think 4-5yrs already. i must say that i am not going back to mech drives for my OS.
