Dead Graphics Card or something else?

I recently ran into an issue where my computer won't detect my gpu correctly. The gpu is an AMD Radeon HD 5770 1GB, but under device manager it is showing up as a "NVIDIA GeForce 7025 / NVIDIA nForce 630a". Nothing displays through either the DVI or HDMI port. Now the computer runs and boots fine, and I'm currently displaying through the VGA port on my motherboard (an ASUS M4n68t-m v2). I originally thought that it was simply that the gpu had died, but I noticed that the fan for the gpu is still running (which for all I know could still mean a dead gpu, it just seemed odd to me) or at least tells me it is powered.

I have a much older PC I could try the gpu in, though I'm worried about doing that since I don't think the power supply could handle it.

So now what I'm wondering is if there is anything I can do, or if my gpu is indeed dead.

Just a quick recap on specs:

Motherboard: ASUS M4n68t-m v2
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 5770 1GB
CPU: AMD Phenom ii x6 1055t
OS: Windows 7 home 64bit

I believe I've covered everything, but if I am missing vital info please let me know.

I just did that, uninstalled both AMD and Nvidia drivers. Then tried to re-install the latest AMD driver. After install, I get the error "No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly. Please install the AMD driver appropriate for your AMD hardware."

Yes I am. It is Catalyst 14.4 downloaded directly from support.amd.com. My computer is still saying that my display device is an NVIDIA graphics card (though I'd assume that is because that is the VGA slot on the motherboard?)

Edit: I did notice that after restarting my computer after attempting to install the latest AMD driver, my computer had automatically re-installed the previously uninstalled NVIDIA driver.

Also, when restarting my computer I get an error popup that reads "The AMD Catalyst Control Center is not supported by the driver version of your enabled grahics adapter. Please update your AMD graphics driver, or enable your AMD adapter using the Displays Manager."

So, I would think it is probably pretty safe to assume that my gpu is, in fact, dead? I tried again uninstalling and reinstalling drivers only to get the same result.

I'm starting to wonder now if it is actually the GPU or if it is the PCIe slot on the motherboard. Unfortunately without another GPU that takes the same slot to try, I can't test it right away. Going to try to find a computer store nearby and see if any of them would let me test my GPU there.

If there is anything else I can test though (since it may be a few days till I can try the above method), please let me know. And also, thank you so much for all of your help so far.

Okay, so a new symptom has appeared. I haven't yet had a chance to test my GPU at the local computer shop, but I noticed within the past day now that whenever I turn the computer on it resets once before POST and then boots and runs fine. I would think this is something else pointing to the issue being the mobo (since I would think if it was the PSU it would keep restarting and never POST, right?). I can try taking out and reseating everything (except the CPU, as I don't currently have thermal paste to re-apply) later on, but just curious if thus far I've been assuming correctly?
