Hi, im building a new PC, and my current questions concerns motherboards.
I'll take 4790k with Noctua D15 and I'll OC it, so im looking for z97 chipsets.
I already own a dedicated sound card (Xonar DX) so I don't need a mobo with an expensive integrated one.

I personally like MSI motherboards, and I were looking for "Z97 Gaming7" or "Z97 Mpower". Both seems cool, but both includes a HQintegrated-sound that I wont use and increases its costs. Also Mpower has lots of OC utilities, and im planning like a 20% OC on 4790k (to 4.6-4.8ghz).
Will this motherboards be overkill? Should I go for 100€ mobos instead?

Hope this help :)

Definitely Asus, the 3 top selling Z97s right now are the Hero, the Z97-A and the Z97-Pro (and MSI I won't touch because of their poor QC)...I've got the Z87 Hero and it was the best of the Z87s, and also the Z97 Hero (which is even better than the Z87 was (in sig) ;)

Yay, I had bad experiences with asus too, thats why I wanted MSI. But maybe they changed in this years.

Anyone knows if Asus Maximus Hero/Ranger has BCLK adjustments?
MSI Mpower allows to adjust BCLK to 100/125/167mhz and this can be cool when reaching the overclock limits, but anyway taking an extra 25mhz on the OC wont be any noticeable difference.

In comparison of Mpower and Ranger (same price in my country) the MSI one has 2x aditional SATA and an aditional pcie 1x...
Does the OC performance really differ a lot between this two motherboards? I prefer Asus look, but MSI seems to give more for the same price...

That's the trouble with anecdotal evidence. No matter the brand, bad boards are going to slip through. For instance, I've had Asus, ASRock, and Gigabyte products fail within weeks, yet their overall reputations are pretty good.

Ultimately, we can only depend on RMA stats to gauge a brand's reliability. In this case, I have no idea if MSI is better or worse than the others.
