I am a tech savy gamer who was in the middel of a game session when my computer critically froze on me (happens every so often). So, in frustration, I decided to for shutdown my computer since lately I get errors when I bring up the security action menu via ctrl alt del. When I tried rebooting, the computer just stalled on a black screen with what appears to be the startup status console blank. I waited, then decided to go into BOOT diagnostics. I found out my hard drive was not responding, so I ran specific tests on the hard drive. All the tests that I had used came back as a failure... From what I can hear from the operational sounds coming from the drive, nothing seems to be at fault. I occasionaly hear the read/write heads move back and forth, though that's all I hear. From when I last opened my laptop, it had a 500 GB Western Digital HDD. The age of the Windows 7 Dell inspiron is about four to five years old, if memory serves me right. Would anyone be willing to give me some insight as to what could possibly wrong? Help will be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunatly, I don't have another computer readily at my disposal that I can mess with at hand. Plus, I think the hard drive is of the smaller size, so it wouldn't work with the apple tower that I am going to gut for new parts that I will lace into the awsome case in the case... which I think also has a missing processor as well...

Come to find out, the connector fits perfectly in the gutted tower. I might just scrap the laptop case itself and transfer working parts over to the tower. Anyone know any good deals on proccesors, graphics cards, or RAM tailored specificaly to the tower specs?
