Hi,

I was looking through VGA prices at my local PC store, and some prices left me confused...I would appreciate if anybody could explain to me why these VGAs cost the same (well, 760 is only 10$ more).

  • VGA PCIE16 R9 280 3GB GDDR5/D-X OC 11230-00-20G S SAPPHIRE 274$
  • Sapphire Radeon R9 270X, 4GB GDDR5 (256-Bit), HDMI, DVI, DP, BULK 274$
  • VGA PCIE16 GTX760 2GB GDDR5/GV-N760WF2OC-2GD GIGABYTE 284$

  • I thought maybe 270X costs the same as 280 because of its 4GB VRAM? but then I found this at the same store... Sapphire Radeon VAPOR-X R9 270X OC, 2GB GDDR5 (256-Bit), HDMI, 2xDVI, DP, LITE 271$

    I was thinking about buying VGA PCIE16 R9 270X 2GB GDDR5/R9270X-DC2T-2GD5 ASUS 228$, but seeing that if I add 50$ I can get 280 or 760 I just don't know it anymore...

What are your ideas? Is it worth to spend 50$ more for 280/760?

http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-R9-270X-vs-GeForce-GTX-7... = the gtx 760 is bit better and so will be the 280. Get what you can afford.

I can afford all of them, I just can't decide if I want to pay 50$ for few fps. Should I choose to buy a better card, what whould that be? 280 or 760? If I'm not wrong, 280 is a bit better performance wise, but it heats more and needs more power (I have 500W psu, wonder if that would be enough for 280) and then there's nvidia physX . And what about 270x 4GB? Is it worth considering at all?

Get the card that you like more between the R9 280 and the GTX 760.
If you don`t have a favorite brand, I have one more question:
Do you plan to SLI? (add one more card later on)

If you will SLI in the future, get the GTX 760.
If you will not SLI, get the R9 280, as it`s a bit better in performance, but needs a bit more power.

I don't plan to SLI. Would 500W psu be enough for r9 280?

My original plan was to get cheapest asus 270x I can get, and then later upgrade it to 770 or something along those lines, but seeing as 280 is not that expensive...

A good PSU will be enough, but a shady brand PSU will be pushing it.
Do you know the brand and model of your PSU?

If you check this review, you will see that for a MSI variant of the R9 280, they recommend a 500W PSU, and usually ask for a bit more than needed just to be in the clear: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2014/06/09/msi_radeon_r9...

if you can afford it get the 280. similar performance of the 760 but has more vram which may be useful in the future. Although it will most likely run out of processing power before memory becomes a factor, but at least you'd have it if you need it.

I was thinking about Corsair CX500M psu. I know that it would be plenty for 270x and 760, though not sure yet about 280..

500W from a good PSU will be enough, however, the CX serios from Corsair is seen as a pretty bad one.
Check for others from Seasonic, Antec, Silverstone, EVGA, even Corsair, just not the CX or CS series.

At roughly the same price as CX500M I could get Seasonic S12II-520, but it's not modular (or is it?).

This one is not modular, but it`s better quality than the CX.
If you want a modular, let me know if the price for EVGA 120-G1-0650-XR is good for you.

EVGA brand is not available at all in my country, and it would too expensive to order it from other countries. I think I will buy seasonic PSU and get case with good cable management, so that even non modular psu wouldn't bother me with cables that aren't used. And most likely I will get r9 280.

Anyway, I will pick your answer as a solution. Thanks.
