What happens to integrated graphics?

I want to know what happen to integrated graphics when dedicated graphics is installed in a system. Will the integrated graphics work together with dedicated graphics or it just speak to dust.
One more question can we switch between integrated and dedicated graphics using bios or something like that.
Thanks in advance.

Depends on the system, but modern intel systems can use the cpu integrated graphics as well as the dedicated, allowing you to run dual screens in windows etc. In games you will want to use the dedicated card though.

When an external graphics card is installed, unless you change its BIOS entry to keep it enabled always, the integrated graphic will be disabled, they can't be used together

I keep iGPU enabled for QuickSync, also I can actually use it alongside my dedicated one for an extra monitor or two, if needed.
