This is the message I am getting, displayed on a blue bar across the screen, and below:

"To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher."

This is weird, because:

1. I am running Win 8.1 64 bit on a Toshiba laptop with 16 GB of RAM.

2. I am trying to install 64 bit versions of SketchUp and Xara Designer Pro.

3. I have installed (without problem) previous 64 bit versions of BOTH programs on this machine.

4. ALL software on this machine is legal, paid for and licensed, no funny nothing!

5. This is a new computer, also with plenty of HDD free space...

Can anyone make sense of this?

It's driving me nuts...

I have tried re-downloading the most recent versions of both software packages, I have tried disabling ZoneAlarm anti-virus and firewall, I have tried rebooting, with all programs closed... NOTHING works...

Thank you for any possible help!

Night Owl... thank you for posting...
... and the answer is "no" --- that would be funny!
All are just regular Windows installers (Xara doesn't even have a MAC version... not yet...)
Thanks anyway for taking the time.

Mmmm.... perhaps right click on .exe and run the installer in compatibility mode?

I don't see a run installer in compatibility mode when I right click. There is a "Troubleshoot compatibility" option. If clicked, then there are a couple of steps one can go through... but nothing works... it does not fix the problem...

(life used to be simple up to Win 2000 workstation, that is!... lol! ***sigh!***)

Nope... not a problem there, and as said, I have the previous 64 bit versions of both these software programs installed... and nothing really changed after those were installed...

Try right-clicking the installer and going to properties. Then look for a compatibility tab and see if you can change the compatibility mode.

You said you've installed this same software on this computer before, but that the computer is also new. What happened the first time around that you have to reinstall the software?

Nothing happened. This is a more recent release (in both cases; to be more specific, for SketchUp Pro it's an update, for Xara Designer Pro X it's a new version.)

Previous versions were also 64 bit, and installed without problem...

As for the compatibility tab, I have tried that... no luck.
