The supplied NVIDIA GeForce G210 MXM card is not compatible with Windows 8. Acer's response is that it will never be supported for 8.

With a windows 8.1 install the touchscreen is working, but the resolution is wrong / generic.
I've been trying to fix but I'm stuck in a loop of "NVIDIA Installer cannot continue / This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware".

The supplied NVIDIA GeForce G210 graphics card is definitely an add-on type, I've had the case off and it matches the setup shown here: http://www.mxm-upgrade.com/z5610.html (scroll down).

I've given up spending any more hours on it and I'd rather spend money to buy a compatible card than continue to try and hack drivers to get it working.

I don't need gaming, just web browsing and video streaming, the device also has DVB-T tv, so it'll get used for that too.

I don't have a lot of video card knowledge, but if anyone could recommend me one that will plug and play in windows 8 and supports a native res of 1920x1080 that would be great. Budget about £50 (flexible) :)

Acer should help it is their product that means they only want to sell their products not taking care of customers is just bad very bad for company image. Well i found a couplr of cards for you on ebay that have the same slot as you and i think will be fit like the guide said in the link you posted. Here are those cards, and remember what you are doing is at your own risk:

It is not difficult to fix the problem of drivers not installed. Just edit the nvami.inf file, editing 2 strings that can be found in the properties of the video card in Device Manager. Like that

NVIDIA_DEV.0A74.0691.1043 = "NVIDIA GeForce G210M (Acer Aspire Z5610)"

%NVIDIA_DEV.0A74.0691.1043% = Section012, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A74&SUBSYS_069110DE&REV_A2

Working 100%
