So it's my first build and I have:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Motherboard: MSI H97 GAMING 3 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (£80.36 @ Scan.co.uk)
Total: £80.36
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

This comes with msi Live Update and offers to update the Bios from 1.00 to 1.30.

Is it worth doing or should I stick to, if it aint broke don't fix it. I've seen a lot on people not being able to boot after a bios update so I'm trying to be cautious about it.

Thanks

Depending on your CPU (which you didn't tell us about) it may make sense to update the BIOS for better support. Other than that - yo're right, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.:)

I will tell you though that if people follow the upgrade instructions CAREFULLY, there is probably 100 successful upgrades for every failed upgrade you will read about here. :)

Make sure you don't use MSI live update, in fact you should uninstall it. That is the main reason of BIOS flash fails on MSI boards.
Use M-Flash in the bios to update if you'd like to, It's true that if it broke don't fix it but I like keeping everything updated anyway. :D
