I recently built my first computer! I took a gamble because I hadn't done that before and it cost me near 2200$. Everything turned out great and is working well. Except 1 thing : My I7-4770k is constantly near 100% usage.

It will reach 68% if I open netbeans and 2-3 windows of Chrome. For some reason if I open the game 2048 it will reach 100%.

Here is my part list :

Note that I have 3 monitors and that I only have 8g of RAM instead of the 2x8 I was supposed to have.

I took a screenshot of my RealTemp, CPU-Z and the resource monitor with chrome taking 50% of my cpu usage.

I hope I followed the guideline, first time posting but no sticky post :(. I just used common sense :)

Well, you don't have many options and not to many programs that I ever used put an i7 4th gen in max usage.

That is weird. And i would RMA it as well. Just make sure you rule everything out first. Alot of times with new builds you are downloading and installing all kinds of updates and some Antivirus can do that as well. but if you are sure nothing is running in the background i would RMA as well.

But i suspect something is causing it to run software wise.

Once I completed my build, I installed my drivers, Spybot S&D, Malware AntiB and AVG antivirus. I got 1-2 games installed but everything else is work related. I don't go to any "shady" website so I doubt I got some kind of virus. I guess I'll take a look at an RMA :(

Yup, Just rule everything else out as a possibility and RMA That badboy. That is one nice chip. Just hate for you to RMA it and wait to have same problem is all. Very rare to get a bad chip but it can happen.

But i think AK47 is right Chrome should not be using that much CPU power really....

Wait I think I found something. My computer only detects 1x 8gb but I actually have 2 installed. Could it be the cause of such failure from the CPU?

Well you said in your OP you only have 1 8gb stick?

"Note that I have 3 monitors and that I only have 8g of RAM instead of the 2x8 I was supposed to have."

If in fact you have 2 sticks of ram you may need to RMA the ram as well. Try running with just one stick see what happens then use the other stick in the same slot to rule out you dont have bad memory.

Yes I tought I had 1 because when I checked my spec it only said 1x. I just reviewed my invoice and it's 2x8gb.

I contacted the intel support and they gave me some stress test to do. I'll keep the post updated when it's done.
