Hey guys,

I put up a post before about my temps and I was told to get an after market cooler. Cause My temps would average about 67 when playing games, it was ranging between 60 to about 77 depending on the game. At one point is maxed out at 81 after 3 or so hours of gaming. This was on the stock cooler.

I then proceeded to get the Coolermaster Blizzard T2 from my local Maplin store for about 30 quid with an after-market thermal compound kit, because I was afraid that the cooler master 212 would not fit in my case, cause the blizzard T2 barely does and I was quite short on the cash. There's less than an inch between the side panel and the top of the cooler. Now the temperatures did drop, but only by like 5-7 degrees at best. Ranging between 58-70 degrees, again depending on the game I play. But it has not reached 81 ever since I got it about a week ago. I have a midi tower case. My cable management is fine there's no airflow obstruction or huge bundle of cables. I idle at about 18-28 degrees. I live in Ireland so it mild enough during the summer.

I do indeed have only one intake fan at the front of the case. I am planning on getting another 2 fans for my case in about 3-4 months time. I'm getting mixed massages across the message boards that 62c should never be crossed. Then some are saying don't go over 70, with some saying 70 is fine. Some people say that 70 is fine if you only expect your cpu to live for max 4 years.

Sorry for the long post this is my first computer that I've built, and I'd like to not burn anything out within a year. So I was wondering will it severely shorten the lifespan of my cpu if I wait until then or should I return the Cooler master and try and get a better after market cooler. Plus how much of a drop in the degrees would I expect from the addition of the 2 fans. Thank you would really appreciate some love and helpful replies. Have never been so stressed out trying to find an answer.

First of all awesome name. You don't want your processor to go over 62C for prolong periods of time, but occasionally will be fine. Positive pressure might help with your temps (more intakes than exhaust fans). I wouldn't be too worried about it.

Use AMD overdrive to test the thermal margin for the cpu it will be lower once you stress test it. For me the thermal margin goes until 70C. A post by damric says that you can operate in the full envelope of the thermal margin, which for the fx 6300 is 70C on the core!

Well I got an exhaust fan, the coolermaster jetflo 120 for 20 euros, and I ran prime95 for 30 mins with core temp, Hwmonitor and aida64 extreme, and my temps did not exceed 60 degrees under 100% load usually about 56 degrees it stayed at. So that's about a 15-20 degree's drop in cpu temps. Seems like all I really needed was proper airflow in my case thanks for the help.

no problem! Just make sure to clean the dust out at least once a year!
