Im putting together my first custom PC and my friend mentioned that motherboard choice was important in terms of its OC reliability and safety

I was wondering, will there be a difference in my OC of a 4690k to about 4.4 or 4.5ghz if i picked the mATX asus z97m-plus or the asus z97-a

this is purly about the OC potential to stably reach those above, and not features like PCI slots etc.

For the noctua, I've seen people needing low profile ram for such a large HSF. The dh14 should work, you might need to research ram clearance with it. Get the Asus Z97-A. CM Hyper 212s won't suffice for those overclocks.

The Asus Z97M-PLUS has a 4+1 power phase and the Asus Z97-A has an 8+1 power phase so in general the Z97-A is better for overclocking. Both have the same small VRM heatsink... The Asus Z97-A is better, but not sure if you can squeeze a full GHz more out of the 4690k with it.

Would i be able to get better oc if i had better cooling, or is it difficult to get a 1ghz OC regardless of it >
