The Z97 will provide an upgrade path to the Broadwell CPUs when they arrive, on the mobos I'd go the Z97-A from Asus, they had the best Z87 mobos and have improved them with the Z97s, the A is the second best seller right now, behind the Asus Z97 Hero

I have the MSI Z87-G43 mobo which has been working great for me for 1 yr now. From my experience I would say that MSI makes great Intel mobos and has very good tech support. If you can get the MSI mobo for only $80 I say go for it!

yeah I might end up going that route. Since I can't get the price on the MSI anymore.

Definitely go for the Z97. The cost difference is very low and it is just not worth it to get the older Z87.
