I wonder if anyone can help with this one.
I must have caught some kind of virus.
On my D: drive, Seagate 2TB, I have all my photos and music.
I appear to have lost about 7 months of files and all remaining files have had their 'last modified' attribute set to a date in November 2013.
Odd thing is, if I enter a name into Explorer search box, the files are visible with file information showing as I'd expect. If I select a text file and right click to open, Notepad opens but says "The system cannot find the path specified". If I click on an ISO file and select open, Nero opens but says "Sorry, this is not a valid Nero disc image file". If I double click on a directory, I get a panel saying "Location is not available" and 4 lines of text offering possible answers.
I have run Recuva but it didn't find any files to recover.
I tried CHKDSK with various parameters but this didn't recover anything.
I'm at a complete loss.
If Search finds files, then there must be some sort of file/folder information being held somewhere.
Do I have a corrupt master file table?
Any other bright ideas?
I really can't afford loosing 7 months of family photos and videos.
Thanks for any ideas. Steve.
