The title says it all, my windforcer R9 290 is running 72c the very momment, i have no clue why!

It´s just way too much and should not be that much all my 3 fans are spinning on the card, i got a well ventilated case, i have no clue why the idle temps are that high :/

If you look up the GPU usage, is it very high?

WHile that seems a little high, its not dangerous.

See where it goes during a game.

clearly there is something wrong. Either the temp sensor is reporting incorrect data, software is unable to read the data or there is too much , not enough thermal paste on the card or the cooler has a factory imperfection.

Try with GPU-z and hwmonitor - if they both report over 65 then return the card

hmmm... Touch the heatsink , see it for yourself , if it's 72'C hot in idle , than there is something wrong , and you should return it.

They both use the same technology to monitor temperatures,it won't matter that he's looking at both as they will report the exact same.

I'd say make sure that it isn't a software issue first.Open up your case and check to see how hot your card really is by keeping your hand close to it.If you get a warm/hot aura, then that's not good.Assuming your ventilation is not at fault, you must have a defective chip or at the very least a chip with a defective cooler.

Well now it's 99% that the gpu is faulty.
