You actually have to be a bit more specific. Maximus VII Hero, Gene, or Formula? Which exactly? Yes Suztera mentions the extra M.2 slot but the new Z97 boards just have the new chipset that works with 4th gen, devil's canyon and upcoming newer fourth gen and fifth gen CPUs from Intel. Other than that, not much has changed. Maybe the integrated sound card, better overclocking hardware, A LOT BETTER LOOKS IMO and different backplate/rear I/O ports. For example, the Maximus VII Gene has much less USB ports than the VI Gene but again that was because Asus stated that they wanted to focus more on the board itself for the new z97 line and...

For example, the Maximus VII Gene has much less USB ports than the VI Gene but again that was because Asus stated that they wanted to focus more on the board itself for the new z97 line and not the ports themselves (unless you need a lot of USB ports :p). Be more specific, and maybe then we can help you. :)
