My cable modem only has one port, and I need more than the 4 ports that are on my wifi router. If I plug the router into the modem and the switch into that, the desktop computer doesn't get internet connection. If I do the modem to switch to router, the wireless computers don't get internet (it says "limited access" showing connected to wifi, but no internet).

Solution
Be very careful when you switch things around. The modem tends to like to keep the first mac it sees. You really should turn everything off including the modem. Power on the modem what till it up and then plug the router in and power it on it will then likely lock to that mac address of the router. Many router have the option to set the mac address of the wan port. You should be able to key in your pc mac address if your would rather do it that way. It tends to be easier to just be sure you power things on in the correct order.
What happens if you plug router into the modem, and PC into the router (forget the switch for the moment)?
Usually - you need a (cable/DSL) modem, which gets WAN IP address, then a router (to masquarade all clients behind it to use that single WAN IP). Switch (if used at all) is just a "power strip" to provide more LAN ports out of the switch.
