hi people i gave my mate my old apu build and he went out a bought a 560 ti for cheap he has a problem with it. when he plays things like battlefield 4 it shuts the pc down and a bios message comes up saying a power surge was detected.

he is running the following

amd A8-5600k
xms 4gb ddr3 1600mhz ram
asus f2a55 mobo
asus gtx 560 ti
unbranded 500w psu (came with the new case he bought)

guys any help would be great i have told him it might be the crappy psu but i thought the 560 ti can run on a 500w anyway.

thanks in advanced to any help given

Its probably a crappy PSU.
The card might be asking for the power, and the PSU is rated to deliver it, but it might not be delivering it efficiently, causing a power imbalance and that failure.

That means your GPU can't handle 2 monitors cause of the lack of power.

ok so do you think it is the second monitor because call me a noob but i didn't think it used more voltage to power two monitors i thought that would be included in minimum power usage as the second monitor wasn't in use when he played battlefield 4

The GPU has to render 2 monitors, meaning it's doing (theoretically) twice the work.
I would suggest a PSU upgrade.
The minimum power usage is based on ONE standard monitor playing a video game.

so could he use the two monitors when he aint playing a game and then when he does want to play a game he turns the second monitor off would it work but in the long run he would need a new psu

In the long run I think a better PSU is needed.

ok so would the turning the monitor off when he wants to play a game work the same as disconnecting it or would the gpu still try to render the second monitor even know its off and not disconnected

I believe it would be best to leave the second screen unplugged from the GPU when not in use.

That should be fine. 650 is enough for any 1 GPU system.
Dont forget to pick me as solution.
Good luck.
