disable inline mic on pc

I have some headphones with an inline mic and whenever I plug it into my laptop it overrides the built in mic which I do not want. Is there any way to use these headphones but not use the mic on it?

does it have a 4 pole or 3 pole end connector?

4 poles would be like on the right, 3 poles would be like on the left

if it is 4 pole... then you could likely just use an adapter such as this one below... then just not plug in the microphone jack
