Recently my Asus Laptop has been making a very strange noise and vibration i think its the fan but im concerned that it may be my HD. the sounds are not constant and it start as soon as i boot it up any advice?

Hard to say. If the Vibration is present when the Hdd is running it could be that. If the Hdd is not running then most likely the fan and in that case I would be checking my temps.

if you have a cd drive... is there a disk in there?

a cd spinning in there produces quite excessive virbration and it would happen on every startup.

if its a contant vibration then it could be hard drive or fan related...

what kind of a noise?

I dont have a cd drive and the buzzing is on and off. it almost sounds like a coffee maker when its not buzzing.

get some compressed air and blow out your fan intakes.

run some games or a stress test to get your components to generate some heat. does the buzzing stay on full time now? if it does... then it may be a bad bearing in your blower fan. bad bearings can make a buzzing noise at high rpm.

if that isnt it... then right after your laptop is started (while its still cool and not hot) run alot of hard drive intensive tasks like copying lots of files around or running a hard drive testing program. does it make any abnormal noises more now?

my guess would be the fan.

are you techy enough to pull apart your laptop to check?
