I have built a system a month ago and I'm not sure if my computer is overheating or not.
cpu: AMD FX 6300
mobo: ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX Killer AM3+
Video: XFX Double D R9-270X-CDFC Radeon R9 270X 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card
psu: corsair cx750m

I have attached the screenshot of the temperature reading from HWmonitor. I was running prime95 when I took the screenshot. I ran the prime95 for 4 min because cputin was reaching 60. Does this temperature look normal? Also, which temp is the actual cpu temp? cputin or package temp?

Im not using stock cooler. I using ZALMAN CNPS5X Performa 92mm. I was wondering if it was normal for cpu to reach 60 even when you are not suing the stock cooler. Also what is the maximum temperature amd fx6300 can reach and still operate?

60C is not max temp for the FX-6300. And I noticed you didn't give it time for the fan to pick up speed. When that would happen, the temp would start to drop.

but which temperature reading is correct? cputin or package temp?

It's hard to be sure what HWM is reading with cputin. Normally that is the core(s). But with the Bulldozer CPUs, it can get a little flakey. Your better using the new AMD Overdrive and watching the Thermal Margin instead with those processors: http://www.techspot.com/downloads/4645-amd-overdrive.ht...

The pkg temp is usually the socket temp or the sensor under the heat spreader if available.

I just ran prime95 with amd over drive, and the thermal margin never went below 23c.

Id try re-setting your thermal paste or trying to lower voltages. My 6300 @4.5 never goes past 50c with a 212 evo even after 24 hours of prime. They can run cool if you tune them right.

That is a good safe load thermal margin. Especially with prime95. In fact it is about normal. Here is some more reading if you are interested: http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-2122665/understandin...
