Graphics card has DVI-I dual link port, monitor has VGA cable. Will a DVI-A to VGA adaptor still work?

I think you meant DVI-I (integrated). That carries both analog and digital video signals. The only port on the card that will work with a DVI to VGA adapter is the DVI-I port... the one with the 4 holes around the flat slot.
