Hi I just finished installing windows 8 and i partitioned just enough for the os but stupid me forgot about the drivers and now when I try to update there isnt enough room on the drive. How do I fix this cause I have 1.8 tb free on the same drive but a different drive letter

Solution

OK
Boot from your install media
When it gets to 'where to install', select Advanced
Select each partition, Delete
Eventually you will be left with one large unallocated space. From your previous info, I'm guessing 2TB?

Now...we get to determine if we want to partition that drive. Personally, I wouldn't...but if you want to, do it.
Since you apparently have a 2TB drive, create a partition of no less than 100GB.
Install Windows in that partition.

Figure out the rest later.
If you can use windows 8 on the drive you have partitioned.
Load windows.

In the search box type: Disk man.
Click on create an format hard drive disk partitions.
You will see a list of the drives or partitions created Ie: C: D: ect.

Right click on the 1.8Tb partition and select from the pull don menu shrink volume.
Enter the new size you wish it to be.

Click ok, or apply.

Next right click on your C: drive and select extend partition.
What ever you shrunk the D: drive too you add to the C drive what it was reduced by.

So if you shrunk D: by 100GB you would add that to the new size for partition C:

C: existing size say 20gb, extend volume= size 120gb.

'Partitioned just enough' ?
How much have you dedicated for the OS?

What drives/partitions do you have? Sizes?

You gave 9GB for the Windows OS? That will not work. Not even a little bit.
It will 'install', but that is it. You won't be able to actually use it.

Since this is a brand new install, I suggest starting all over again.
Devote a min of 60GB to the partition you wish to put the OS on.

Personally, I think the whole partitioning a single drive thing is obsolete. Used to be valuable when drive space was expensive. Not so much any more.
