Cox has increased their internet speed in my area but advises me that I need to upgrade to a DOCSIS 3.0 modem to take advantage of the enhancement. I plan to purchase a Motorola sb6141 modem for that purpose. I also have a D-Link DIR-825 wireless router connected to the modem. Will I need to upgrade the router so wi-fi connected devices will be able to take advantage of the enhanced speed? If so, what router do you recommend?

You might. I had to upgrade from my wrt54g or whatever it was as I couldn't get the full 50mb/s out of my modem, and now they upgraded to 100mb/s, so it certainly wouldn't have handled that.

Try plugging in the modem to the PC direct, do a speedtest. plug the modem in the router and pc in to the router, and test again. are they about the same, and near the max speed you should be getting according to your plan? if so, you don't need to upgrade. If it's slower by a lot, you do. My old router could handle about 30mb/s and direct to the modem was 55mb/s. Now with a e4200 linksys, it can handle the 100mb/s no prob on any pc connected to it's gigabyte ports.

Your router is most likely ok. The Dlink DIR-825 is an N router with a speed of 300, which is far faster than your internet speed.

I would look at the receivers for the WiFi, and make sure they are N or AC.

Enjoy the faster internet speed!
