Hi there,

The problem I am occurring is on my sisters desktop which I have decided to help her fix, but I am stumped too, so here I am asking you guys! :p

What is happening, is about every hour my sisters monitor seems like it's malfunctioning and just displays purple lines EVERYWHERE. Now I've reformatted her PC and installed the necessary drivers and programs etc (done it a million times before) but the problem is still occurring, even after the reformat.

I have personally tested the monitor and the VGA cable that it is connected through and it isn't that as it works fine for 24 hours + on my set up, so I'm thinking it is definitely a hardware issue.

She doesn't have a GPU, just running her VGA cable through on-board graphics.

Purpose of this thread is if anybody can redirect me to a hardware diagnostics program so I can pinpoint the exact problem and get her to replace the part so all is good.

Any feedback is welcomed!

It could be a faulty integrated graphics chip, and if it was me I'd install a low-cost graphics card to test that theory.
Means spending a few quid on a card but it's the quickest and easiest way to find out.

Giving the system case a good blast out everywhere inside with compressed air would be beneficial too as it may be overheating the graphics chip if everything is clogged up with dust and debris.

Thanks mate, I'll give this a crack tomorrow sometime. I have a spare 640 GT lying around I can put in there.

You can download the next,
http://www.hwinfo.com/download32.html
open hwinfo32,after that open the sensor window, then click at the bottom "Logging start" ,after that choose a name and place for the log.like Hwinfolog at your desktop.Leave it open and do game/stresstest or whatever you do until a crash or for as long as necessary. The log will end at that point but will be saved. After the restart (if happended) you could look at the log with either excel or libre office calc.
