Hey guys, I just got an HP z800 for free today due to the graphics card apparently catching on fire a little bit and melting one of the PCI slots. If I remove the slot and use a different PCI slot for another working card, would it work like normal or would I need to replace the motherboard? Everything else is good on the computer except for the slot and I'm not sure if the motherboard is entirely fried due to a small section covered in soot. How would I go about finding out without risking damage to my working card?

Solution
Take my advice and dump that motherboard. Even though the slot can be repaired but it won't provide much guarantee and you won't know when it will burn again. The money you spend on repairing is better spend on a new motherboard with warranty. It might be some what a little expensive but it will be worth the money.
