So I am an idiot and I was such in a hurry to finish my build that i forgot to remove the sticker on the bottom of the heatsink before mounting it onto my cpu.

Luckily the plastic didnt break/fry or anything and i re applied the thermal paste and made sure the mount wasnt too tight.

It went from starting up in bios at 44C and going to 52C with 1900rpm, to now 34c-42C with 1400RPM.

I need to know if a PC that is just sitting idle with this setup:

CPU : AMD FX 6300
Motherboard : M5A97 R2.0
GPU: Zotac GTX 770 4GB
Case : Fractal Design Refine R4
PSU : SeaSonic 80+ 620W Bronze Certified ATX
G.Skill Ares Series 8GB
Cooler : http://pcpartpicker.com/part/enermax-cpu-cooler-etst40t...

Is fine with running idle at 42C with just bios (no windows installed or anything.)

Would greatly appreciate an answer! :D

42C for AMD CPU at idle is on high side for sure. What is your ambient temp?

It depends on what your ambient room temperature is really. If your room is around 27C or around 80F then, yes, that is an acceptable temp. But, if your room temp is much chillier then it might be a bit high for idle. What are the temps under load? I'm not exactly sure what 1900 and 1400 RPM mean. Record your temps when your CPU is running at least around 80% and make sure it is the core temps.

I am not sure but lets just say it is definitely hot as shit in here. Could I have STILL applied the themral paste wrong?

I am pretty sure i did it right, i put a little pea sized blob in the middle and then instalkled the heatsink on top of it only using the force from tightening it on there.

I dont know exactly how to check my room temperature but its not chilly in the slightest. Even at night ( which it is now)

What should my CPU be at?

Keep in mind it gets to around 42-43 after leaving it on for about 20-25 minutes.

I Cant put it under pressure yet because i dont have windows just yet.

and when i was talking about RPM i meant the fan speed.

i have that exact cpu overclocked to 4.4 ghz it sits idle at around 32deg using hyper 212 evo ,, are you using stock cooler ? them temps are a bit high but still in the safe range aslong as it does not go above 65deg under load your fine, cant belive you forgot to take plastic cover off hehe :)

This is the after market cooler i have Cooler : http://pcpartpicker.com/part/enermax-cpu-cooler-etst40t...

And yeah i know im stupid for not taking it off lol.

that cooler should do the trick , try starting over but put a little less thermal compound on (grain of rice) if it stays the same i wouldnt worry too much , run prime95 for about 15 mins using small fft and report your temps like i said if it goes upto 65 there's something wrong

considering that your room temp is most likely above normal room temps (under 77F) then these reading are probably not too much to be concerned about even with an aftermarket cooler. Yes, the temps are within acceptable range but it is only idling. If it were me and everything looks like it is installed properly and the fans are all spinning and in the right direction (many fans have arrows showing air flow, usually point it out of the case) then I would go ahead and install the OS. After that, I'd immediately DL core temp and OCCT then run a stress test to see if the CPU cooler is working properly under load when you can really tell if something is wrong or not. If the temps don't get ridiculously high (I think it is in the mid 60's (C) or so for that chip) then there really isn't much to be worried about. If it immediately jumps to the max temp and isn't a gradual incline then shut it off and maybe try the stock cooler.

No windows. Please install windows then install HWMonitor and read the temps in that software and post here. Even at 42 you are good to go for windows installation. No issue there. I did not ask for RPM or its definition though :)

...yeah, what did you mean by "52C with 1900rpm" was that the speed of the CPU fan? Chassis fan? Those speeds are really meaningless when measuring CPU temps. You need to look at percentage of load of each core in the CPU. That'll give you a better picture of what is happening inside your CPU than how fast the fans are spinning.

1900 is the speed of the CPU fan as being reported by the OP but at that speed CPU temp was 52C. If I have interpreted it correctly then again both readings are worth probing there.

all he needs to do is... download prime95 and core temp run prime for 15mins using small fft's and watch his temp using core temp if it stays under 65deg he's golden ... simples... after he's installed his operating system of course
