Hi,

Im new to the whole overclocking scene but want to really get into it.

My current system consists of;

Motherboard Gigabyte F2A85X-D3H ATX
Processor AMD A10-5800K 3.8 Quad Core Intergrated HD 7660D Graphic
RAM 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz
PSU Alpine 500 Watt Quiet ATX

I have yet to install a Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB Graphics card, it states on the box a 750 watt PSU is needed but seeing as i want to over clock the GPU and the processor then I may need more than 750 Watts.

Cooling will be an issue and I will address it by water cooling the GPU and CPU.

Im thinking of buying a Be Quite! Power Zone 1000watt PSU. (http://www.bequiet.com/en/powersupply/384) I want to future proof it so I would like extra power so in the future when i upgrade then I dont want to look for another PSU.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A 850w PSU would fine for the GPU with some OCing. XFX and EVGA are very good.

The main components in total take around ~450w + any smaller things like HDDs. Couldn't find the exact Mobo since it got discontinued by a newer model apparently but it should be similar enough.

Estimated wattage to the top right-ish section of the page

A R9 290 requires minimum 650w & a minimum of 31A on the 12v rail. Basically almost every 650w PSU has the 31A 12v rail requirement so any decent reputable 650w PSU will do

It doesnt draw that much power not even close to it. I've seen a 4670k and a 780 Ti run perfectly fine on a 450w Gold without going over 410w. They simply have a high recommended wattage because they take into account that more than just the GPU is going to be pulling a lot of power since its most likely going into a higher end system since its a high end GPU

Yeah :) I'm not saying it does draw 750W, a 780 Ti's recommended is 600W, I'm not saying the gpu uses 150W more than a 780 Ti, they have to take into account that some people may have psu's from not so reliable manufacturers so they are recommended 750W just incase their psu doesn't actually give 750W

on a system with Radeon R9-290X and Core i7 3960 Extreme (Sandy Bridge-E) @ 4.6 GHz on all six cores the System Wattage with GPU in FULL Stress was ~379W . so an 850w would make sence on a system with 2x290x which i dont recommend with such cpu you have. so a good 650w would be more than enough even for overclocking!

I like to have a lot of head room for PSUs so If I upgrade or sli/crossfire I don't need a new PSU. Just though I should explain why I picked what I did.
