PSU any good??

Solution
That PSU is very low quality, many people have issues with CX series PSUs.
I recommend taking a look at this, http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1804779/power-supply-unit-tier-list.html
and searching for a PSU on a website of your choice from tier 2b or better that's within your budget. :)

Which i3 do you have? if it's something like an i3 4130, you can step up to a GTX 770 or better before it will start bottlenecking. The 750ti is a great card though, but only if you can't afford any better. :p

Yep, that's a great choice.
He should still have a look at other options in the link I posted though. :)

Of course it will. :)
All I was trying to say is I'm not sure what cards it would bottleneck in GPU intensive games, but definitely not a 750ti. :)

Im playing games like DayZ Standalone but on lower settings.Im hoping a better card(i have a HD 6670)will give me a few more fps and run it a bit higher so it looks half decent although......i hear DayZ is more about CPU

plus tbh this is just a stepping stone system untill i can fund better machine with an i7 so i am reluctant to spend too much money on it if in a year it will be in the cupboard

That's fair enough. Since you are buying a new PSU, you could always go for a more expensive card like a GTX 780 or Sapphire Tri-X R9 290. Your current i3 might bottleneck it a bit, but when you upgrade the rest of your PC it would really shine with an i5, and you wouldn't have wasted money on a 750ti. :)

550W would be fine for a powerful card in that build, actually. The PSU would get loud though.
Although if he got a 750W PSU he could use it for his next build too, so I think that's a great idea.
I'd recommend the EVGA Supernova G2 750W, it has amazing reviews and is great value. I picked one up myself, so I can confirm this. :D

This is false. In the majority of games, an i3 will BARELY (not noticeable) bottleneck a card like that. People think the i3 is some junk CPU, when in reality it benchmarks within 3-8fps of the i5 and i7 in most games.

Look at all the Average FPS. The i3s are BARELY worse than the i5s and i7s.

An i3 will be perfectly fine. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

His i3 is an older model. I know that a 4130 would not 'bottleneck' a high end card. I just can't confirm that an older model get the same results, and I doubt you can either. :)

Well that's great then. It doesn't change my advice though. At all. :)
I have changed my post. Thank you very much for the info, one of the reasons I'm here is to learn more. :)

As I just said, I edited my post. :)
And I already said, I know the newer i3's are great gaming CPUs. I just wasn't sure about the older model.

No worries!
Yes, the 750ti is the best card in that price range, in my opinion.
Another option is the AMD R7 260X. :)
