Yesterday I got my Samsung 840 evo 250GB SSD, After I installed it in my PC I couldn't seem to clone the data on my current OS disk over to the SSD so I just reinstalled windows 7 and selected to install it on to the SSD in the menu, then I formatted my old hard drive. However shortly after that I noticed that my second monitor wasn't displaying anything, and that I had no internet connection, I had a look in device manager and it is listed under other devices but it doesn't seem to recognise it.
It also doesn't recognise my second monitor, when I'm loading up the BIOS both screens work but when windows starts it turns off. Is this a driver issue?

Another thing is that when I start my PC it gives me two boot options I can either boot from windows 7 or windows 7.. the first one takes me to the windows 7 with no second monitor or internet, the second option boots into some kind of windows recovery program.

*Info*
SSD- Samsung 840 evo 250GB - in a SATA 2 port
HDD1- 1TB - this one I formatted and want to keep as storage for games - SATA 2
HDD2- 600GB - this one I store media and general files - SATA 2
GPU- Radeon 7750 - I have a HDMI to DVI for my first monitor, and a HDMI adapter for VGA to VGA for my second.

So by setting it to AHCI wont help with boot order, i suggested changing it before installing the operating system because people sometimes forget to and need to do a registry fix later. Just thought id mention it since you're still installing the operating system sort of :)

It will make things easier if you take the hdd's out. The dvd wont automatically startup if there's...

1. You tried to clone, it didn't work, so you just installed the OS clean. OK.
What I think happened is that the clone partially worked, and copied over the original boot partition. Then, when you installed the OS clean, it added that install to the boot options. That is why you're seeing both choices, and the one is all borked up

2. Did you install your GPU and ethernet drivers with the new install?

It might be possible you have two Window7 installs on the ssd? Since you formatted the hdd that used to have the operating system on it, on boot shouldn't be giving you that option i would have thought.

With the dual monitors, this will be optioned through video properties as from a fresh operating system and graphics driver install will set single display by default.

I tried to install my Ethernet drivers but I literally have no programs on my PC now, and it says I need adobe reader to install the driver, I tried putting the installation on a USB from my laptop but it needs to connect to the internet to download it. So I'm a bit stumped as to what to do, as I can't download any drivers without internet.
I'm using a TP-link power line adapter.

I think it might be possible that I have two copies of windows too, I had a look at the SSD and in the same folder as program files, Users, windows etc there is a file called Windows.old. Maybe this could be causing it?

The Windows.old is what is left over from the original clone that went wrong.
I'd suggest just starting over. This time, when it asks 'where to install', select Advanced. Delete all existing partitions on the SSD, leaving one large empty space. Let Windows install to that, creating what it needs.

That's what I attempted to do, but when I go to install it there is no advanced button anywhere? only a format button, is this because I didn't boot straight to the disk and launched the setup via windows?


**Update**

Reinstalled windows, now I see boot from: windows 7, windows 7 recovery setup, windows 7 or windows 7.. Am I doing it wrong by not booting to the disk? :3

Right. You have to boot from the DVD, not doing it from within Windows.
Starting from within the running OS, you're asking it to delete itself. It doesn't like that...:D

ok, I went into boot options in my BIOS and then pressed enter on CDROM but then It still booted from the SSD..
my mobo is a 78LMT-USB3 if that helps.. :3

The full options are:
LS120
+ Hard disk
CDROM
ZIP
USB-FDD
USB-ZIP
USB-CDROM
USB-HDD
Legacy-HDD
Port :1-TSSTcrop

Am I right in selecting CDROM? or should I have chosen another option?

Your DVD drive is first in the boot order and it still wants to boot from the SSD?

The CDROM needs to be first in the boot order.

I've tried all I can but for some reason it wont boot from the cdrom, I went into advanced bios options and but first boot drive as CDROM and second as hard disk, but it still maintains the same order with ls120 first then +hard disk etc.

Do you think I should press to boot from that second windows 7 option which takes me into system recovery options?

I can't see that actually working.
Somewhere in there exists the capability to boot directly from the DVD. That is what you need to find.

OK.. sorted it :3 the second windows 7 options WAS the CDROM i just went to system recovery and did a fresh install, however, it installed windows onto my original HDD NOT my SSD... when I went to install windows there wasn't the option to install windows onto my SSD.. now I have Windows 7 on my SSD AND on my HDD >.<

There is also now 4 windows 7 options to boot from now.

Need to be patient and configure during the install process which hdd you want to install to.

As for booting with the disk, like you found out because theres already an os on the hdd it will give you an option. If there was nothing on the hdd then the dvd would start automatically.

Make sure your ssd is connected to the first primary sata slot, usually labelled 0. The first slot is generally meant for boot drive but doesnt need to be but since windows lists drives as disk 0, 1 and so on, the ssd will be first on the list so you wont get confused.

Also change your ssd drive in the bios to AHCI mode if you haven't yet before installing Windows 7.

Ok that sounds like a good plan, If I put the SSD sata cable in slot 0 and it still doesn't boot from the cd drive, do you think removing the two HDD's sata and power connections completley woulod do the job?

Alright so I put My main HDD in port 3 and my SSD in port 0 but it still is booting from my main HDD and not the CD, maybe because I don't have the AHCI enabled? I can't seem to find the option anywhere, will it be with my storage options and boot first devices? because the only thing there is the option to have EFI, NON-EFI, or AUTO.

Then during the install process you can delete the partitions from those hdds and start fresh on your SSD

Ok, for a second things started to look up :3 I enabled AHCI and I took out my HDD's and so there was nothing but the SSD, it booted from the disk, I installed windows onto the SSD, but when I booted it up, I had the same problem in the start where there were no drivers installed or programs, so I can't access the internet to install the drivers as my ehternet port isn't being recognised..

The main drive still has all the data on it though, could I simply plug in my HDD and copy the data from my program files? Or is there another way around this?

From another machine, go to the motherboard manufacturer and download the LAN driver to a USB stick.
Take that to the newly installed PC and install it.

Ok I finally did it! I just but my other HDD back in and then searched that HDD for the driver software in device manager, everything is up and running back to normal and I know have windows on my SSD with my other HDD formatted as a storage device :D

thanks to both of you for your help!
