I'm looking to upgrade my old Dell Inspiron 530 which I use for college work with a Core 2 Quad Q6600, that currently resides in my gaming PC. However, I'm unsure as to whether its PSU is up for the job. The current specs of the Dell system are:
- 250 GB Hard drive
- 3 GB DDR2 RAM
- X1300 PRO 256mb graphics card
- G33M02 Motherboard
- Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E4300
- 300 Watt PSU

The PSU specs:
+ 5.0V = 22.0A
+ 3.3V = 17.0A
+ 12.0V = 18.0A
- 12.0V = 0.8A
+ 5.0Vs = 2.0A

Will it be able to cope? Or is a new PSU needed? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

You should have no issues in the power department with just a CPU change.

No change needed.

A CPU change will barely affect power you can still use the power supply.

Thanks for the replies guys, my only concern is when I use the PSU calculators they seem to suggest a 350 Watt minimum. However, I'll still give it a go.

They aren't accurate , they over-estimate.
