hello people!
i am about to buy a psu! and wanted to ask the community here for a nice advice!

the specs of the rig are these

Asus h97 gamer pro
Asus r9 280x oc
Corsair vengeance 2x4 drr3 1600 - c7
Intel i5 4440
with a Spire Kepler Pro fan
3 hdd
1 m.2 ssd
well an optical drive and 3-4 chassis fan probably Corsair AF120 :D

well my question lays on how much wattage do i need, i've read stuff and used calculators, the answer i get is 850 watts , is that correct?
of course i want my rig to run smoothly and not push it too far!

Also no crossfire will happen in the future ,and of course no overclocking (its an h97 board)

More about : watts

850W is a good, safe number for that setup. PSUs are the one component you don't ever want to run at near their maximum capacity.

Oh god no a good quality 500watt like an xfx or seasonic would be more than enough.

Those calculators are completely useless they act like everyone is buying a garbage 20 dollar 850 watt ebay psu. What really matters is how many amps are on the 12v rail so if you have say a 500 wat psu with 12v 40a that is more than enough for any single gpu setup.

Rm's arent very good you definatly dont need 650 or 850watts. I would say get this.

or this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

I own the bottom one and run a gtx 770 an amd fx6350 oc to 4.5ghz and 8 fans total, an ssd an hdd and a dvd drive it doesn't even hiccup why people think you need these crazy high wattage psu's is ridiculous.

I could run my house off of 850 watts lol that is total overkill.

i want the psu to run on 60% load and under that means if i get a 550w the loads must be 330w and lower, which i doubt,
i dont want to have my psu work on 100%loads..

650w on a high quality build platform psu is as low as I go a well built psu at 650 can be better than a 850 made with lower sub standard parts.. look at psu reviews at sites like this and learn...

you don't want to end up with something like this

Those psu's can handle 100% load indefinitely buy a rm 650 with a weak 12v rail and thats a different story if you really think you need 650 watts which you dont at all get a 650watt version of one of the psu's i posted the rm is basically a modular cx with chaep Chinese capacitors. Those 550watts are far better than an rm 650.

Dunlop 0078 thank you very much for spending time helping me out in this thread , i can agree 100% with you, good psu's can handle 100% load indefinitely, and also i can agree that my system may consume something around 450-650 watts, so a good 650 will do the job,
but ... i want a silent cool psu, running a psu at 100% means 2 things hi fan speeds (noise) hi temp (all system will be hotter)
a psu is at idle loads or low loads will run silent, with much more low temp, thats why i am looking to a good psu that exceeds my system needs about 40% ,
back to my question, how much watt will my system actually consume? if it is 450 w for example i will by an 750w psu (450/60%=750)
if system consumes at peak 510watts , still a 650 gold certificated psu will do ,but i will buy an 850 (850*60%=510)

well the second question (which is what brand/series to buy) comes after i find the right wattage
Thanks a lot for your time :)  :)  :)
