Is it worth getting an optical drive

I have extra money left over from upgrading my computer (approx £60)

Would it be worth it buying an optical drive? And do you have any suggestions on an upgrade? Maybe a new mouse? (I already have a mech keyboard (K70) )

Yes it is! Specially when you want to repair your OS, run memtest etc.. And Lots of games still comes in optical drives.

Get anything that is cheap. LG/Samsung/Sony whatever you like. Really, DVD R/W drives are 20$ each.

no. don't waste money on it..unless you have a big DVD collection..ha. Who does that anymore? If you want to put some money down maybe improve cooling if your components are fairly new.

Honestly, for 20$ its one of the most versatile hardware to have.

And there is a concept called Live Cd'd that lets us experience various flavour of Linux's in our windows box,

Unless you use cds/dvds, getting an optical drive would be pointless.

I'd get an SSD if you want faster boot times/ load times, if you don't already own one.

Yes, its called USB boot. But I guess I am old fashioned and I bought my win 7 at a store which came at a DVD. Honestly, I still do not understand why you would not want to buy a 20$ component that can be useful at at least some times.

I would get the 120GB+ 1TB HDD. Store your files on the HDD and keep your major programs and OS on the SSD.

If you don't need the 1TB of storage then a 256GB SSD also isn't a bad choice.

I have a 500GB HDD atm which I can easily upgrade in the future AND it holds all that I need

(My anime etc, btw <3'ing the Sakurasou Shiina XD, plan B heh)

I was going to go with the Kingston as it's only £72 for the 256GB

Given the price of 256GB SSDs..gotta buy one. A year ago I would have said 128GB, but now there are so many quality choices for around $140.
