Hi guys. I've had some problems with my build and it's driving me crazy. Every time i bump up the settings on games or play a game or something, I get a horrible burning smell from my computer. It smells like it's coming from the Power Supply which I'm not surprised at all by as it's just a cheap PSU what I paid about £15 for, but now I'm starting to think it is my GPU instead. Also if i turn the settings up on games or bump up the resolution my computer will just restart and sometimes it will restart with the GPU fans on max. All the temps are ok on the PC. I'm sure to check them all the time. GPU sits idle about 38C and CPU is idle at about 49C. The GPU doesn't seem to go back 65C when gaming. Another thing I've had some BSOD's too. That was before the burning smell started though and only happens after playing games for a while. Full list of specs here:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit
RAM: 4 GB DDR2 800 MHz
Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 460 1GB GDDR5
PSU: Alpine 500W
HDD: 160 GB 3GB/s
Asus P5K-SE Motherboard

ya i strongly think its the psu....replace it with a good 450 - 500 watt psu from seasonic, xfx, evga etc..

You should REALLY change your psu, if your psu were to die out, then it would take most of the other parts with it too. I highly recommend you to buy a better high quality psu.

There's not really a budget in mind but I'd say less than £40?

i dont think a 430 watt would be enough for gtx 460...it requires 24 amp @ 12+ volt and a minimum of 450 wat psu..

Does anyone have like a temporary fix so my PC won't restart? I can't play any games and I don't have the money for the PSU just yet. Like say I Underclocked my GPU?

Yah, just keep it at default clock... and don't put game setting's on high-ultra it will use up more gpu , drawing more power from the psu and that smell will come again.

yes setting the gpu at default or underclocking it may help a bit and as said above play at low gfx and not for a continuous period of time....

i dont see a major difference using vsync in games what it does is reduces the fps so its better u compromise it until u get a new psu....
