Hi all,

I have a problem that I hope you can solve, or at least send me in the right direction.

I have a Dell Alienware AW2310 OptX monitor, which was a gift from someone.
Unfortunately it does not work, and I'd love to get it running. The problem is that when I start my computer the display activates shortly, ranging from 1 second to 15 minutes, and then it turns black. However, the power light is still on (white, not orange (standby)), and the menu buttons work as well (I can hear a sound when I click on them). I can step through the menu, only I get no picture, of course. when I restart the monitor it works again, but it fails shortly after. My computer still recognizes it and thinks the monitor works properly. I tried different HDMI, DVI and power supply cables and exchanged them with my current monitor, all of which are good but did not change the behavior of my dell. Installing new drivers was also didn’t help, nor did updating the firmware.

A friend of mine is now studying electrical engineering. He has opened it to see if he could find anything. He said there were no apparent exploded capacitors on the power board or the graphics card, but at that time he did not have the right equipment to actually measure them. He also had a quick look at power lines, which also seemed fine.
Also, my father (also studied electrical engineering a long time ago) has opened it, but aside from a broken resistor, couldn’t find anything either. But he does not have the right equipment to measure capacitors. This broken resistance has been replaced, but that was not the culprit.

This monitor hasn’t cost me any money, so I do not mind spending some to repair it. However before I do so, I would like to be sure it will not be a waste. the costs must outweigh those of buying a new monitor..

My PC runs on windows 7 prof, I can provide the specs if you need them.

Thanks in advance!
