Is it possible that you switched to an operating system that handles disk space differently? I know there's an inconsistency between advertised disk space by HDD manufacturers and what operating systems display, because one uses 1 kilobyte = 1000 bytes, whereas the other uses 1 kilobyte = 1024 bytes.

Before formatting i have three Os in my system ubuntu,windows-7 and windows-8 when i open windows 7 or 8 i cannot see my ubuntu partition...if i install ubuntu again can i see my missing 45gb of data..??

Hi

Look in Disk Management on any modern Windows & you will see all partitions on hard drives
(windows, other operating systems, recovery partitions etc)

Format does not change partition other than one formatted

If you cleaned hard drive then re partitioned then reformatted everything is gone

Is there un used space on hard drive for new Ubuntu partition ?
Is ubuntu partition there, but it is not visible as a choice in startup ?
