Need Your help in replacing my old motherboard.

My pc have :
Intel Core 2 duo E7300 processor
Asus P5SD2VM motherboard with 2 slot for DDR2 ram
3GB DDR2 Ram
No graphic card

Few days ago 1 slot got burned. Now i only have 2 gb of maximum ram that i can install in my pc. Now what i should do,

1.Buy a motherboard which support DDR3 ram or
2.Buy a motherboard which can use my existing DDR2 ram.

I don't have graphic card now so in both case i have to buy a graphic card also. so please suggest a budget motherboard and a graphic card (1gb).

Hi

Since modern motherboards will have PCI-e slots it is up to you to descide if you like Nvidia or AMD graphics cards
as they will work with both Core 2 775 and modern i3 & i5 & i7 1150 (1155) motherboards

Graphics card choice depends on what type of games you want to run and what resolution your screen(s) is

there are regular reviews of graphics cards at Toms Hardware along with table of relative performance.

Since motherboard burnt without your action
( such as removing ram while PC switched on or in sleep mode)
it has limited life and could go wrong again & stop working

so I would recomend researching how much performance you need and can afford
choice of cpu:- Pentium, i3 or i5 (socket 1150)

Does the motherboard still work with 2GB of ram?

If so I would hang onto,it for a while and save up for a modern i3 or i5 system

New Socket 775 DDR-2 motherboards are rare and most have only 2 ram sockets
Micro ATX size

New DDR-3 socket 775 systems are slightly more common and DDR3 may be reused in more up to date systems

Is your windows retail or oem ?
if oem you may need to buy a new copy of windows

2 GB. Of ram is more than enough for XP and just about ok for win 7

How did ram slot get burned?

Yes it is working, and iam running windows 7 in which 2 gb ram is not sufficient for me.

i don't know how slot get burned, i suddenly switched off the pc after the burning smell.

whether i should buy a i5 or continue with my core 2 duo.

and please also suggest me a graphic card series for both type of motherboard.
