New build, something gone wrong?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a bind and would love some help because I'm stumped.
Just bought a new Core I3 4150 cpu, Asus H81M-A, and a 2x2gb set of patriot DD3 1600 ram from Fry's. Had an old GTX 620 for the video card and and old (~2003 AS500W ATX12V) PSU. I popped every thing together, hit power butting, nothing at all.

Ok, I screwed up here under the excitement of getting this PC together. I had the case power button pins connected wrong. The Power pin was plugged into the motherboards ground pin so of course nothing happened. I fixed the power button connection, hit the power button and then... no post, no beeps, no screen.

Well crap. OK, it's probably the PSU, not enough power right? Maybe something with the old power supply and new Haswell power saving capabilities. I go out and buy a new Thermaltake TR2 430W PSU. Rig it up, hit the power button, no post, no beeps, no screen.
OK, this is getting ridiculous. I try to rule out case shorts on the motherboard by doing a box build. Motherboard on cardboard, CPU, 1 stick of ram, and no video card (using motherboards GPU). Power on, no post, no beeps (obviously), no screen. Switch memory stick, same result.

Now this is getting infuriating. I have a nearly identical system at work so I take my CPU, GPU, and ram to my office. This new system has a Asus H81M-C motherboard. Try each ram stick, posts and screen on. Both good. Try GPU, posts and screen on. Try swapping out chip, no post, no screen, and no beeps. Put the original (i7) CPU in and starts right up. Switch back to the i3, no post, no screen, no beeps.

No beeps. What. The. Hell. I have no idea how this chip could be bad and why the motherboard/speaker isn't telling that it is. I know intel's quality control is crazy good so I doubt DOA. Is there anything I have put in here that could have killed the CPU? Does the new Q2 Haswell chips necessitate (ie motherboard wont even post) a BIOS flash?

I'm completely lost. Someone please help. Have I screwed it up?

Look this over: http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/list.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=1&s=45&m=H81M-A&os=&hashedid=jFB3K56VopR5yFB0

If you decide to try the BIOS update then boot the board with the older CPU just to perform the upgrade

I've looked over the second link and covered those bases. Question though: If I have an old version of the BIOS on the motherboard with a new CPU, can that completely prevent POST?

Prevent POST, yes, for sure, but you would likely get either fans spinning, lights on but no POST or momentary fan spin, then nothing. There are many possibilities, including that it isn't a BIOS issue at all. But if you have exhausted the other things on the list then a BIOS update is the next logical try.

Got it, worth a try at least. Lights do turn on and fans will spin for minutes so that fits the bill. Hopefully this works.

It is known to not even recognize a CPU in the socket
