CPU Power Surge

I was playing skyrim when suddenly my PC just completely switched off. When i turned i back on i got a message saying "CPU POWER SURGE!". I continued to boot up and everything's working fine, but im worried it might happen again. Do i need a new power supply? (Also i was running a LOAD of texture mods on skyrim so my GPU was beinging stressed, so that might have something to do with it maybe)

UPDATE: Now when I turn my pc on it lights up and the fans start but there's no display. I opened my case up and 2 USB adapter cables had fallen out of the motherboard, I plugged them back on but still nothing happens. Could they have done something to the board when they fell out?

Everything is where it should be. When I turn the pc on my monitor lights up as if it's about to boot up but then it just goes back to saying no input.

Did you try taking out the CMOS battery for a minute or two then putting it back in.

And when I turn my pc on the fans always start fast then after 2 secs slow down. But now when I turn it on they go fast, then slow down, then go fast again and slow down again, as if the pc was starting up twice

The PSU may have killed the board with the surge.

CX power supplies are poorly made , second to last in the Corsair lineup.

Is there anyway on knowing if the board still works?

Yes another supply , would tell f it's the board or supply.

My fans are just connected to the motherboard and they work fine, so is it more likely my power supply not distributing power to every component. I hope so because it will be a pain in the ass to have to build my pc again

Or the board could also have an issue.

If you had another PSU to test with then you would know.

Ok, thanks for your help. Just one last thing, is the power supply the only thing that could cause the surge, meaning if the motherboard Is broken then the power supply would have to be changed aswell.

CX series supplies are not very good , I would change it to a SEASONIC , XFX , EVGA B2 , G2.
