Corsair H60 question

Hello Everyone,

I have a question about the Corsair H60 aio. My first question, is the idle temp supposed to fluctuate? On hwmonitor/open hardware monitor my tmpin2/tempture 3 reads between 20c-45c at idle, keeps fluctuating while the core reading is in the 20c-30c range. When running prime95 it never gets past around 55c on tmpin2/temp 3 (this matches easytune6's temp reading) and 38c max on the core. This is with the stock 3.5Ghz and 4.1Ghz turbo. My ambient room temp is usually high 70s lower 80s (I have a window unit that is NOT in an ideal location, only window in the room). I have heard the FX series doesn't read temps to well at lower temps but gets more accurate the higher the temp gets. This fluctuation is really bothering/annoying me. While playing games like borderlands 2, bioshock infinite it maxes at 45c on the tmpin2.

Does the included thermal paste on these units need time to cure like as5? I am also wondering if my top 140mm fan (exhaust) is hampering airflow to my H60 (rear mounted), should I use it as an intake fan? Would it be worth it to install a second fan for push/pull?

My specs are;
FX-6300 stock speeds
GA-78LMT-USB3
8GB PNY Optima 1333MHz ddr3
Powercolor HD 7870 GHz
Antec 302 case
Corsair TX650v2
Samsung 64GB ssd
2x WD 2TB blacks
1x WD 1TB green
Corsair H60

Any input, advice, knowledge will be greatly appreciated.

Edit; The pump is connected straight the psu if it matters, I didn't want some fluke of nature to cause the pump to slow down.

You're probably fine. I have built several rigs with AMD processors since the demise of the K10s. They all have been kind of flaky as far as temp displays go. The APUs are the worse. AMD has come out with a new version of their Overdrive that now reads Thermal Margin instead of current temps. It is the preferred way to watch tmps on the newer AMD CPUs and APUs. http://www.techspot.com/downloads/4645-amd-overdrive.html

The recommended max temp for the FX 6300 is ~63C. Throttle begins ~90C. So if you can maintain thermal margins of ~24C or better UNDER LOAD, you will be good.

I think the sensor went bad. I replaced the h60 with my freezer pro 7 (which kept it at around 28c-32c at idle and topped out at around 56c) and my temps shot up to 70c idle and 92c under a light load. The hsf was barely warm.

I put that hsf back on the phenom ii 720 it's on now and those temps are fine with an oc at 3.3Ghz. idle at 34c max at 58c.

Sigh, the h60 seems like it's working good though, temps look the same as before.

Hard to figure out sometimes. It might be a MB/BIOS issue too. I have a LGA 1150 MB and i3-4150 that is giving me temps issues too. And I know they're bogus.

My old PhIIX4 965BE @ 4.0GHZ on an MSI board runs and reads perfectly. As far as I'm concerned, AMD messed up with the Bulldozer 'modules'.

I'm running core temp now and these readings are "normal". I don't expect my aio to bring ungodly cooling but 50c idle can't be right, I reseated thing like 10 times last night all with the same results.

I think it's likely a mobo issue too. I will check if any bios updates are available... Sigh, I may just switch to the blue team soon, rather than overclocking this one line I was wanting too.

thanks for your input, it is much appreciated.

The Blue Team is where I'm having my problems. My idle temps with the i3-4150 in BIOS is 50C if I let it sit for a few minutes. I RMA'd the 1st i3 and the replacement one is exactly the same. I sent the MB into Gigabyte with an explanation of the problem, and they are finally sending it back to me with a note that they couldn't find anything wrong. So I can sympathize with what you are experiencing. Very frustrating.
I would de-lid it and replace the cheap TIM that Intel uses, but then I'd have to sell the system with a loose lid.

well, I'm going to keep my fingers crossed here, the temps are finally going to where they should be. Prime 95 kept at 37c (granted it was only for 20 minutes but it's also no OCed yet). gaming has been around 35c spiked to 40c for a split second but I'm not worried. I'm just happy my temps have stabilized. If it keeps cooling this good I will go open loop and cool my video card too.
