Hello.

I installed a SSD (Smsung 840 pro) on my pc and when I went into bios I
saw it detcted 7gb of 8gb RAM. Before did the installation bios and windows could detect all of my RAM. The wierd thing is that i have 4 sticks of RAM that have 2 gb each, so it would seem there is one stick of RAM where only half works. Is that possible? or is it more likely that I have damaged something while installing my SSD? There are no warning LEDs and averything seems to work fine. I took out 2 sticks and started up with 4 gb and all 4 gb was visible in bios and windows, haven't tried with all ram moduls because my cpu heatsink is so big and annoying.

The motherboard is an Asus p9x79 pro, and the memory is two kits of Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600MHz 4GB CL8 (CMX4GX3M2A1600C8).

Sorry if my post is clumsily written, not used to be writing on forums. Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

Don't think my motherboard have this option in bios, can't find it. If I look in the program CPU-Z it shows all 8 gb but in windows task manager it only shows 7gb. I have taken them all out and put them back in but it didn't help.

Looked around some more in bios and found that it reports one ram slot or the ram itself as "abnormal". Can this mean there is something wrong with the ram? I really hope it's not the motherboard.

How does that ram in the "abnormal" slot do in another slot?

I solved it. I bought a new stick of ram and now all 8gb is showing in bios and windows without an "abnormal" message, I guess something is wrong with it.

Thank you for replying and trying to help.
