Advice on best WC parts to buy

I just received my new VII Formula MB, and I have 300 to spend on cooling.
I will remove and sell my H100i as its an aluminium rad, and my new MB
is all copper. I guess I would want to do 1/2" inside diameter fittings and hose ???
I just want to do a rad with two fans on top, a rad on the front, and a res/pump in the front. I will eventually buy the 100 dollar each GPU water blocks and add them to the loop, but for right now I just want to do my cpu and the water loop in the new MB that comes with wc empty hole fittings. Any advice on what to get would be much appreciated.

The large fan at the top of the case will be on top, rad underneath, and two fans under the rad pushing air up in a push/pull config.
The large fan in the front is sucking air in, I can put a 240? Rad there, with two more fans pulling in, and then hopefully have
enough room for the pump/Res.

Solution
I base all of my custom loops on kits such as the XSPC Raystorm AX240 Extreme since I haven't been able to source parts for cheaper. You will need two additional compression fittings or barbs for the motherboard, that should get you up and running, add another AX240 (or other rad) if wanted

Alphacool Lighttower Res/Pump combo 250 ML $65.00
XSPC EX240 Duel 120 Low Profile RAD $55.00
2 Xspc 120mm 2000 rpm Fans $18.00
Swiftech Apogee XL CPU WC Heatsink $65.00
--------------------------------------------------------------------
$209.00

I just spent an hour just looking for parts and the ones I picked came to 210 bucks. Now I would need tubing
and fittings. I just would not want to order something as I want to get as much info as i can and make a
informed decision. I can sell the H100i and use that money to buy a small Rad and Fan for the front of
the 650D case.

After looking at the Raystorm AX240 Extreme, I must admit that it looks pretty good !!!

My Rad and two fans on my H100i JUST fit as it is. I have to plug in the CPU power before I can"
mount the MB to the case, as the left fan shroud touches as is now.

Radiator Dimensions 120mm x 275mm x 27mm
Fan Dimensions 120mm x 120mm x 25mm

I will try to find out the dimensions on the Raystorm setup and see if it will be ok.

I just saw this one too...... http://www.frozencpu.com/products/21641/ex-wat-275/XSPC_Raystorm_AX240_Universal_CPU_Water_Cooling_Kit_w_D5_Photon_and_Free_Dead-Water.html

So there is EX and AX and RX ????? Looking at the dimensions for the rads, Im not sure if they will fit !

My H100i is 120 x 27 x 275
AX 240 duel fan rad is 128 x 40 x 286
EX 240 121 x 35.5 x 275
RX 240 130 x 56 x 278

My fans on the H100i may be thick, The back shroud is touching the CPU power plug. I had to insert the plug before I was
able to screw in the 8 screws for the MB to the case.

I guess I just need to know which one of the three AX EX RX is going to be the best one for me to start off with.
My MB has a copper inside and so I read where the Rads have copper and brass. I guess that is a LOT better then the
aluminium in my Closed loop H100i, but I know enough to sell that unit and not try to cut the hoses and use the rad and fans.
I guess I can always just buy two fans that are shallow as he worst case situation. As far as holes go, the Corsair has several
places where screws can go for the rad, so I dont know if AX or EX or RX makes any difference screw wise ????

Thank You so much for your help. I want to order this tomorrow and get going on my new project. I know the D5 fan is a very good
one and should be able to be enough for my future endeavour of adding another RAD and Fan to the front of 650D case and then
WC'ing my 2 GTX 680 GPU'S as well.

So the entire loop would do the cpu the MB in and out, and the two GPU's ( eventually, as the water blocks for the GPU's are a hundred per card. )

Thanks so much for all your help !!!! Please let me know which setup would be best for me of the Three. (ex ax rx)

Good thing this happened !! By Taking a photo of how close to the mb the fan shroud was, I found out
I had not hooked up one of the H100i Fans Now its all good. Hope to find out what is my best bet for water cooling !!!

Mounting shouldn't matter, it is generally standardized, not all manufacturers use the standard spacing for fans and rad (generally speaking, if two fans can mount flush side by side, a 240mm rad should fit also)
The RX is very thick (I have an RX360), an RX 240 would probably be doable in the front position (can you fit 2 x 120mm fans there? If so, a 240 rad should fit) - definitely not for the top (too thick for there)
The EX has a thin radiator but with split fins it is as efficient as a standard thickness rad (interesting to me is that it is in a standard thickness frame)
The AX is a standard thickness version of the EX (in the same frame)

So can I take it that the EX version is my best bet for my system ??? Thank You for your answer and all your help.
I really appreciate it and look forward to doing this new water cooling as I have gotten my i7 4790K up to 4.6 with
the H100i and i think I can hit 4.8 with the new WC system once its installed.

As soon as you give me the ok on the EX, I will order it !!

Thanks so much !!!!!!!!!! You have been a really big help !!! Cant wait !!!

******************************************************************

I just went to look at the EX complete kit, and it does not exist. the RAD alone does, but not in a kit. Only the
RX and AX are available at Frozencpu website ?

So I guess the AX one is the only one I should order......... ???

The ((( http://www.frozencpu.com/products/21641/ex-wat-275/XSPC_Raystorm_AX240_Extreme_Universal_CPU_Water_Cooling_Kit_w_D5_Photon_and_Free_Dead-Water.html )))

comes with : 6 Feet - 7/16" x 5/8" Clear Tubing and the Fittings: 7/16" x 5/8" Compression.....

My Motherboard has G 1/4 female holes and can use 1/2 3/8 1/4 fittings. I was thinking I should run 1/2' inside diameter hose.

If I need to order fittings and hose to do this, each part will need two compression fittings.

Rad 2 straights
res/pump 2 45's ??
Motherboard 2 90's ?
CPU 2 45's ?

res/pump to the cpu then in to MB, then out to rad, then back down to res/pump...

**********************************************

after looking at the tubing and fittings sizing chart, I guess you will say Ill be fine with what comes in the kit ??
Im just worried about the fittings I may need for my G 1/4 female slots and the angles I may need. I think
the kit comes with all straight connectors. Id rather buy a few extra 90's or 45's then to not have them ????

G14fittingsonmblookbig_zpsb990832b.jpg

I think the AX version is better than the EX version so no worries there. I've never use angled connectors, they can make for a nice looking loop but until you start putting parts real close to each other I haven't found them necessary. You may find them nice for the CPU-Motherboard connection (it does seem to be tight there). The 6.5' of 7/16 ID x 5/8 OD tubing should be enough for your entire loop but you will need either 1/2 inch barbs (works real nice with 7/16 ID tubing) or 7/16" x 5/8" compression fittings for the motherboard.
As for tubing size, there is very little performance difference between 7/16" ID and 1/2" ID, I don't think the value is there to change the tubing size (I used to use 1/2", I've since switched to 7/16" on 1/2" barbs, my current personal preference)

Im trying to order the parts now, and could not remember my password. I did the "cant remember password" email thing, but the email I
receive to reset my password does not actually show the link in the email. I cant make a new account as my email is already listed.
I tried it several times. I could just hit the paypal thing, but I wanted to be able to check off the shipping costs item. I will give it a try.

********************** edit **********************

I got paypal to let me pick how to ship, all set. But I still cant log on to frozencpu. Oh wll, at least its ordered.

Thank You !!! Im having so much fun watching you tube videos about the reservoir and cant help but wonder if the res seems to always be mounted
on a back wall of the case so I would need more fittings. Can the Res just sit right on the base of the pump ? Im wondering if I need more fittings now
as the kit only comes with 8. I only ordered two extra 45 degree ones, so that gives me 10 total. the 10 may be enough ????? Thanks

It appears to be a fill tube - there are advantages to that although I've only done that once (out of 5 loops). It isn't a necessity and I might suggest not worrying about one just yet. You will find that there are many options to add to your loop; flow meters, fill/drain tubes, quick connects, and who knows what all else - those are (IMO) icing on the cake, use as desired but by no means should they be considered "must have" items

I had to order two more parts. I wrote to frozencpu and asked them if they could put the small order with the big order. Most likely they will not see the email in time to do anything about it. I thought the kit came with 8, but it only comes with 6 fittings. My Bad. I need 10 to do the entire system.

Just out of curiosity, can I eventually buy another pump and use the third slot in the Photon 270 to increase my pressure if needed ?

These two items are interesting....

This mentions being able to use the top part with the G1/4 adapter and using it in the loop ??? Im new, sorry for the million questions !!!

I rinsed out my RAD over and over with distilled water. Shook it up really well and feel its clean of debris. I then boiled 3/4's of a gallon of distilled water, and am waiting for it to cool down before I put some in my system and test bench it on my living room table. Good thing I have a back up PSU.
I wont be able to test the fittings for the MB WC'ing just yet, and hope that I can just take out the video cards and do a 30 min test just for those two fittings, or do you suggest something else ?
There is not a lot of room in my case, and I hope once I bolt on the reservoir/pump that I have
enough room for the 200mm Rad and fan in the front of the 650D case.
I ordered a G1/4 fitting that is special for the top of the res, so that I can do refills in the future.
I have to figure out what to cap off the end of the tube with ???
Thank You all for your help. Im going to do a 24 hour test once the boiling water cools down.

XSPC G1/4" 90 Degree Rotary Adapter - Chrome

I bought one, but thank You very much for your help. I have pretty much everything all figured out now. I have
to move my hard drive tray into the three empty bays below the DVD and Im lucky as it will fit with room
to spare. Now I just have to re-route my power cables for the two GPU's to a higher port and bring the
wires down and I will have room for my pump/res and a new 200mm rad and fan eventually.

Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I forgot to mention (and I feel remiss since it's almost a given when I respond to this type of thread) that adaptability is key when creating a loop - it is the exception that all goes according to the plan as envisioned. MotoPsychoJDN (another member here) has an awesome signature quote I usually give before this point which goes like this " Once you start watercooling, you are almost automatically inducted into the modding circles as well, because theres rarely a 'from the box, fits everyone' solution, its your ingenuity and resourcefulness that makes it all happen". You're there and seeing it so it's a little late but I think you've got a good handle on things

Great Advice and saying !!!! I sure am happy I went with the system I did, the quality is just fantastic and Im a very
happy person !!!! Tomorrow I will start to reroute the hard drives and wires and I should buy the really thin wires
I see on most WC photos, instead of the really thick ones I have coming out of my PSU. Especially for the
GPU power, as those 4 wires are really thick and take up a LOT of room.
